MY MUSICAL BOOK OF FABLES

WORDS AND MUSIC BY GEMMA CULLINGFORD
ILLUSTRATED BY
DUNCAN GRANT
Perfect for children in EYFS and KS1, this book is fun, educational, and delightfully unique.

What happens when a group of curious toddlers asks for a song about The Three Little Pigs? For musician and early years educator Gemma, it sparked a magical idea that has now blossomed into My Musical Book of Fables – an enchanting illustrated songbook bringing classic fables to life through music and playful art.

It all began in 2024, when Gemma was leading a music session with a nursery group of two-year-olds. Inspired by their request, she wrote her own musical version of The Three Little Pigs, which quickly became a favorite among children and teachers alike. Energized by the response, Gemma reimagined and set to music three more beloved fables: Little Red Hen, The Gingerbread Man, and The Hare and the Tortoise.

To bring the songs to life visually, Gemma teamed up with friend and artist Duncan Grant, whose bold use of color and quirky character design captivated young audiences. Children now love to explore the illustrations as Gemma sings along – a fully immersive storytime experience.

My Musical Book of Fables includes a CD of the songs, as well as digital links for streaming, making it accessible for families at home or on the go. Whether your child prefers flipping through a picture book, listening to music, singing along, or all three – this book has it covered.

For budding musicians and musical adults, Gemma has also included full lyrics and ukulele chords, so families and classrooms can play along. The chords are suitable for ages 10+ with a little guidance, making this a great interactive tool for early years settings and primary schools.
"What an exciting new addition to books for teaching and playing ukulele and more. There are so many options for how to use this book. The stories are engaging and fun... Beautifully illustrated, it will appeal to the child in all of us."

Ines Barker, retired music and Headteacher.

"The book includes charming illustrations which were bright and playful and really appealed to my 4 year old. The text and layout is clear and easy to follow, with rhyme and rhythm making it fun to read and simple enough for early readers (5/6 year olds) to join in with.
We really enjoyed the bonus interactive elements of this book such as the video and colouring sheets. The accompanying songs add another level to the reading experience and are simple enough to learn and join in with the storytelling, and the ukulele chords allow the reader to bring the story alive at home and extend the enjoyment of the book.
I think this will be a firm favourite in our house."

Caroline - Mum of two.

"I love it. I love the music that goes with the talking and the listening pack. Some of the pictures are really silly, I think it was great, very calming"

Scarlet - age 6
