why record a song with gemma?
Gemma is an experienced musician, teacher and independent producer who has recorded and released several albums from her home studio. Her original music has received national radio play, including on the BBC.
Over the years she has also recorded her own songs for teaching featuring some of her students - giving them the opportunity to experience being part of a real recoding project in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Alongside her creative work, she has many years’ experience working with children and young people, creating supportive, confidence-building musical environments where creativity can flourish.
These studio sessions combine real-world recording experience with a calm, encouraging approach, helping children feel safe to explore their ideas and try something new. Working individually helps children:
Build quiet confidence and work their own pace beyond the school setting
Develop focus, independent creative thinking and decision-making
Explore their own music ideas and tastes without comparison or compromise
Express their ideas through song choice/songwriting
Working in pairs helps children:
Build collaboration skills
Develop listening and timing
Feel supported and less self-conscious
Enjoy the creative process together
example:
Esmae has recorded several tracks with me over the past couple of years. She has always loved singing, so she chooses a song and I download a backing track, and spend time rehearsing it before recording. If we have time, we often add harmonies to build the arrangement and develop her musical ear.
When Esmae first started, she wouldn’t sing in front of anyone — not even her parents. Through regular sessions, patient encouragement, and the chance to hear her own progress in recordings, her confidence has grown enormously. She is now happy to perform at our open mic sessions in front of a live audience, something that once felt completely out of reach for her. It’s been wonderful to see her develop not only as a singer, but as a confident young performer willing to step outside her comfort zone.
