Adult Beginners Ukulele CourseS

 Adult Beginners courses

Our next 6-week adult beginners course starts 6pm Tuesday 6 January 2026 at YALM in Norwich City Centre.

Please email Clara if you'd like to join the mailing list so we can let you know when booking opens.

Ukulele for beginners

Our fun and friendly courses are aimed at absolute beginners and will cover everything you need to know to get started with your ukulele.

We guarantee to have you strumming along to your favourite songs in no time!

The course covers:
  • Tuning your uke: Learn the essential skill of tuning your ukulele
  • Strumming techniques: Master the art of strumming to create different rhythms
  • Develop timing skills: Work on improving this fundamental skill
  • Making your first chords: Discover the basic chords that form the foundation of countless songs
  • Reading tab: play simple melodies using tablature notation
  • Following song sheets: Develop the ability to read and play along with song sheets
  • Playing well-known songs together: Put your newly acquired skills to use by playing popular tunes as a group

Learning the ukulele has become a hugely popular pastime in recent years and we've taught hundreds of people in Norwich how to play!

There are up to 12 participants in a group.

Need a ukulele?
If you'd like to buy a ukulele you can order an Octopus Soprano (great entry level uke) from us here. Or we can lend you a uke to use during the sessions if you want to try before you buy.

Terms and conditions

All course bookings are non-refundable. However, if you provide sufficient notice and we are able to fill your space, we will issue a refund. Occasionally refunds may be considered in special circumstances at the tutor’s discretion.

Please note that the full course fee is required regardless of attendance - missed sessions are non-refundable.

If a session is cancelled due to tutor illness the session will be rescheduled or refunded.

Our venues

YALM
21-24 Royal Arcade, Castle Street, Norwich NR2 1NQ

We're in the private dining room upstairs on the first floor. Drinks can be ordered from and delivered direct to our room by scanning a QR code on your phone. YALM showcases some of the best independent kitchens in the region so you'll probably want to stay for food too!

The first floor has wheelchair accessible lift, but there is one step going down to our room. You can park in one of the many multi storeys around the city, but probably best to walk, cycle or jump on a bus if you can.

The venue is upstairs at the Abbey School Rooms, so unfortunately not suitable for those with limited mobility. There are handrails on both sides of the stairs.

There is free on-street parking on Becketswell Road plus plenty of car parks in town just a short walk away.
